Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion

The Center for Leadership in Disability – Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (CLD-ED&I) Action Plan was developed in June 2020 to address some of the racial disparities in Georgia. These disparities translate to real lived-experiences for many Georgians, especially when we examine how these disparities disproportionally affect individuals with disabilities. Under the microscope of intersectionality, many difficulties people with disabilities face can be exacerbated when you factor in non-White racial identities. Equity, Diversity & Inclusion is the intersection of Civil and Disability Rights.

There are many objectives on the CLD-ED&I Action Plan. Overall, we are orienting Faculty/Staff on anti-racist theory and practices through continued conversation and guided reflection; re-examining our onboarding process to include information on Georgia State University’s position on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI); and developing our own in-house ED&I-related onboarding training.

In our commitment to Cultural and Linguistic Competence & Responsiveness (CLC/R), we are also developing a process to communicate staff concerns related to racism, sexism, ableism and other conflicts to CLD leadership in order for these concerns to be immediately addressed (see attached for information on our commitment to CLC/R).

The CLD-ED&I Team found that listing and presenting all ED&I-related activities (past & present) to Staff was an effective approach to outlining the presence (or lack thereof) of race-related research and initiatives at our center. We have made it a point to update this list annually and discuss these initiatives with staff in our ED&I Update Meetings held throughout the year.
