10th Anniversary Event – Film Screening – Intelligent Lives
Event Title: Intelligent Lives Screening with Q&A facilitated by Dan Habib
Date: March 27, 2019 – 5:00pm
Location: Georgia State University, Centennial Hall Auditorium
Co-Hosted by: the Atlanta Autism Consortium, the Frazer Center, the Georgia Advocacy Office
and the Georgia Inclusive Post-Secondary Education Consortium
INTELLIGENT LIVES stars three pioneering young American adults with intellectual disabilities
– Micah, Naieer, and Naomie –
who challenge perceptions of intelligence as they navigate high school, college, and the workforce.
This screening was followed by a community panel moderated by Dan Habib, the film’s creator and director! This panel featured Kurt Vogel, De’onte Brown, and Nick Uche, who are currently enrolled in GSU’s Inclusive Digital Expression and Literacy (IDEAL) program. IDEAL is an inclusive post-secondary program for students with mild intellectual disabilities. The program is focused on the development of media literacy, storytelling, and media production skills, to develop each participating student’s communication skills and media maker “voice” — an empowering identity for anyone in our media-saturated culture, especially for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities whose stories are often overlooked or conveyed by others.
