Cultural Competency and Disability
CLD faculty and staff engage in training and research on the topic of cultural competence & disability. In addition to onsite, school-based training, CLD has developed a cultural competence self-assessment for educators and a resource database that supplements the self-assessment. The purpose of the self-assessment and resource database is to help make the abstract concept of cultural competence more accessible to educators. CLD hopes to replicate these tools for use in the community. Research efforts are underway to explore the relationship between cultural competence and the overrepresentation of students of color in certain special education categories.
